OsteoCollagen-Pep is Bioactive Collagen Peptides® (Fortibone), a “functional food” that provides active polypeptides from collagen protein. This product goes beyond simply supplying amino acids for bone nutrition, Bioactive Collagen Peptides® has a unique molecular weight (fingerprint if you will) and peptide distribution profile that acts to signal osteoblasts to build bone. In other words, its action goes beyond simply supplying nutrients for skeletal health.
To obtain the specific Bioactive Collagen Peptide® “fingerprint” required a unique patented hydrolytic process in manufacturing that preserves peptide sequences rich in proline-hydroxyproline-glycine amino acid repeats. This allows for a more favorable polypeptide shape (a rare single helix) that enhances its ability to be absorbed through tight junctions in the gut. As such, approximately 10% of the Bioactive Collagen Peptides® are absorbed intact (the rest are absorbed as amino acid building blocks for bone) and are available at the cellular level to act on cell receptor sites to stimulate bone formation.
In a 2018 randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded study involving 131 postmenopausal women, just 5 grams a day of Bioactive Collagen Peptides® for one year increased bone mineral density of the hip neck by 6.4%, and 5.5% in the spine. This study also showed an increase in the bone formation marker P1NP which substantiates that the increase in bone mineral density was actually from the formation of new bone tissue.
